ChimneySaver is the most widely used waterproofing product in the industry. All masonry materials are subject to water damage and deterioration. Chimneys are in a unique situation because they are exposed to the elements inside as well as outside, including temperature extremes. Moisture is usually generated in the chimney and some of it exits the flue into the atmosphere. Some of the moisture, however, wicks through the chimney to the exterior. It is important that this moisture is not kept in the brick and mortar or it can freeze causing damage to the chimney structure. On the other hand, it is important to keep water from being absorbed into the chimney from the exterior because it can also freeze causing damage. ChimneySaver is a vapor permeable treatment which means it still allows moisture to escape and allows the chimney to breathe, yet provides a protective shield that keeps rain out of the chimney. This water based formula can be applied to damp surfaces. It does not change the appearance of the masonry. It is also VOC compliant, is non-combustible and has no chemical odor. Coverage is approximately 100 square feet of brick surface per gallon. Sold in a 5-gallon container.
